150 years ago — on July 22, 1875 — prominent intellectual, natural scientist, and educator-publicist Hasan bey Zardabi published the first issue of “Əkinçi” newspaper in the Azerbaijani language.
This marked the beginning of our national press and was a significant milestone in the history of our country.
Though it operated for only two years, the newspaper became a herald of enlightenment, publishing bold articles against ignorance and superstition. It contributed greatly to national self-awareness, the development of public, political, and literary thought, and helped raise a progressive generation of journalists.
